CHARACTER
Name: Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear
Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Wing Color: Blue-green
Canon Point: Post-fight with Sync at Eldrant
Canon Point Explanation: Honestly? I feel like it would be an interesting point to play her from. It's after Asch's death so she just lost that pillar of support she depended on so much and she hasn't really had the time to adjust which would have been less of a case if she was taken post-game. So yeah. Really curious to know how it would play out like this.
History:
I am going to cry if this is not enough history
Personality:
At first glance Natalia seems like your typical stuck-up Princess who is very demanding and always tries to get her way. If we're honest this is how Natalia was when she first appears. She drops in on Luke's and Van's conversation and then use that in order for Luke to agree to take her with them. There was much to be desired in her attitude while they were in the abandoned factory. Thinking that Natalia is stuck-up and demanding isn't even scratching the surface; the former of the two not even being very true.
Natalia has a lot of pride for her country. Rather than just sit around the castle and not do anything for Kimlasca she does what she can to help her citizens. Even when she didn't leave the castle she would run public projects including bringing them a hospital and giving workers jobs when they lost their old one. The citizens, despite never knowing what she looked like, respected her so much that they assisted her when she was trying to escape Baticul. They didn't even care that she wasn't the actually princess by blood.
Sometimes this pride for her country can come off as arrogant. She also becomes really defensive over it as well. A quick way to get on her bad side is to speak badly about Kimlasca or blame Kimlasca for something that they would clearly not to like break a treaty. When she speaks about it she even has some sort of haughtiness to her because yes Kimlasca is that important to her. Though, at least during the first part of the journey, it included the fact that she was the royal princess as well.
Her helpful nature extends farther when she leaves the castle. The first case would be Akzeriuth when she offered to help despite them being 'dirty'. However, at the same time she put helping citizens so much in front that she almost considered it a duty until Luke told her that they shouldn't just be helping because they are of royalty. Natalia has a general sense of duty though. She knows what she must do when she has to do it, even if it means something she doesn't necessarily want to do it. If it's something she'll refute then she will. But there are some things, such as defeating Largo, that she did despite what she learned and her feelings towards the situation.
The pride Natalia has for her county and being the princess of the country she loved caused her to be devastated when she learned that she wasn't the 'real' princess but was just a replacement when the real one died. She became unsure of herself and was scared to speak to her father who learned of the truth. It hurt even more when, for a while, the king of Kimlasca rejected her and marked her as a traitor. She found herself doubting her actions even goig so far as to allowing the Dark Wings to get away with conning people when, in normal cases, she would get on their case for doing so.
The words that Guy told her after they escaped Baticul helped her a little with her insecurities. However it took a while for Natalia to accept the idea of not being the Princess of Kimlasca. It wasn't until her encounter with Asch when she became courageous enough to go back to Baticul and speak with the king again. After going back to Baticul and getting accepted as the King's daughter again did Natalia start to come to terms with not being the Princess by blood. There are times that her insecurity seems to surface - normally when she mentions that she is not of royal descent - but she does her best to not allow it to stop her from being the best Princess the people of Kimlasca could ask for.
Some of her insecurities aren't just when it comes to being (or rather not being) the royal princess. Natalia had a few things to be insecure about before then. One such thing is cooking. Natalia is, to put it bluntly, a terrible cook. She is one of those who can manage to burn some part of a meal and somehow under cook another part of the meal. That orange mush? Yeah once upon a time those were carrots. Natalia is aware that she is a bad cook but it doesn't stop her from trying. Though despite lessons from Tear she ... doesn't get much better.
There was a big motivator behind a lot of her actions towards her country. A promise that she made with Luke fon Fabre (later Asch the Bloody) years back. Natalia clung to that promise as well as Asch's proposal unaware that for seven years it was not Asch but his replica that took his place at the Fabre Manor. When the group learns that Asch and Luke are replicas Natalia had trouble separating the two. For one even though it wasn't his name anymore Natalia kept on calling Asch 'Luke'. She even seems selfish in seemingly wanting them both and not being able to decide between the two. But, at the same time, Natalia quickly stopped harping on Luke about being her fiance even joking with Anise and Ion in one skit in Keterburg on Tear about Luke.
On top of it she had trouble realizing that the Luke she knew and the Asch he is now are different throughout their adventure. Once Natalia learned the truth Asch became a pillar of support for her. She relied a lot on Asch and his actions and words to a fault. To an extent Natalia was able to come to the differences between Asch and Luke and separate them at least coming to understand that both Asch and Luke are childhood friends of hers. Hearing Luke say the promise that Asch repeated back in Sheridan helped put it to rest. But even though she had started to see them as separate people it didn't stop her from using Asch as a pillar of support until he was no longer there.
Since Natalia was brought up to be a princess she speaks and dresses like one. She has a sense of refinement around her and has a very sophisticated way of talking. Some of her vocabulary are words that people don't often say on a daily basis. Natalia also has an long range of expressive body language. Folding her arms when she is angry, putting her hands on her hips and lifting her head up high when she's being proud, and pointing dramatically when making a point are only few ways she expresses herself through body language.
There are also a few other little things to her due to her royal upbringing. Because Natalia didn't leave the castle she had a bit of curiosity, almost naivety, to some things that she's told. Nothing serious, but some things such as Van's eyebrows and other discussions that are spoken among the group Natalia would believe them despite the absurdity behind a few of them. One other thing due to her royal upbringing is that she doesn't have much concern over being 'revealing'. Natalia gets several outfits that are considered as such and she doesn't have any trouble with them or shows any reason to be embarrassed. This is because her maids helped her dressed many times so she's used to people seeing her body so to speak.
Remember back at the beginning when it was said that the things shown about Natalia isn't scratching the surface and that the latter of the two mention wasn't true? It is, but the former is a different matter. Natalia can be very demanding especially when it's something urgent or something she needs to know. If something happened that causes her country to be looked at the wrong way she will even go up to Jade, grab him by the collar, and demand to know the situation. Natalia isn't entirely demanding but it's enough to say that yes: sometimes she can be a little too demanding so it may even come off a harsh. However it is normally for selfless reasons such as the good of her country. Normally. Tied in with that demanding nature Natalia can get a bit feisty when she isn't being unsure of herself. She's determined to help her country and she has the courage to go out and do it.
Though, for the most part, Natalia is fairly mature and has a calm nature about her. She can go into a conversation with ideas, concerns, and speak out without a problem. Though sometimes she can also be a bit of a daydreamer. She can speak with most members of the party fairy easily as well. Although she didn't exactly give them the best first impression her actions later helped her and everyone else settle their differences and become better comrade. This is especially true when it comes to Anise and Tear. At the beginning the two other females of the party didn't seem to like Natalia very much. But throughout the journey the three became closer. Natalia and Anise now get along though Natalia sometimes doesn't approve of Anise's actions (but in all honesty who does) while Tear and Natalia became close enough to help each other when they need it.
Natalia, for the most part, gets along fairly well with the males of the group as well. Though Natalia sometimes still treated Guy as a servant during their adventure Guy helped her on several occasions one being after they escape from Baticul and were going through the Inista Marsh and whenever she was worried about something. Luke and Natalia are the two someone would see argue with each other the most though it is normally about unimportant thing such as clothing or cooking. Their relationship changes throughout the journey due to situations mentioned above but in the end Luke is someone Natalia can also depend on. And lastly... Jade and Natalia have their odds and ends and don't seem to see the same views. Often she finds herself challenging what Jade says or does but at the end of the day he's still a fellow comrade. Just one she isn't as close to as with the other members of the group.
Outside of the group how much Natalia likes someone really depends on their view and actions. Natalia respects Emperor Peony for being supportive despite the differences between their countries for one example. On the other end Natalia doesn't like Legretta for some of the actions she did in the past. On the other hand she sympathizes with Arietta and wished for an alternative when they see her in Cheagle Woods. Natalia doesn't stand for injustice or talking badly about her country so those are two easy ways to get on her bad side. But she isn't completely black and white and does have a gray area where people like Arietta fall.
Overall Natalia is someone who sometimes gives off the wrong impression of who they are. Natalia cares a lot for her country and so her pride can come off as arrogant. There are times she is demanding. Sometimes there are times when she refutes and argues with that people are saying because she doesn't agree with their words. But on the other side of things Natalia tries to be helpful when she can. She sympathizes with people and she can actually be a bit insecure about her actions. After all there is a reason why she is well liked among the citizens of Baticul.
Strengths
Physical:
- Natalia is a master of the Lanvaldear-Style Archery which... for people who don't know that style basically means that she is a very good archer. Natalia can quickly shoot several arrows at the same time at a target. Even more when she is using one of her artes such as Gallant Barrage.
- Natalia is a seventh fonist so she is able to use healing and support artes. Her artes are different than Tears' in which she doesn't have field healing artes but she can heal people individually with Heal and Cure. Support artes include the traditional Barrier and Sharpness like in every other Tales of Game.
Mental/Emotional:
- Natalia, for the most part, is calm and mature. She can go into matters with a straight head and provide any ideas or suggestions that she might have in mind. She could also bring up any concerns or complications that there might be on the subject in hand. Whenever they went to Emperor Peony to speak with him about any issues she spoke with dignity and did her best as the Princess as Kimlasca.
- To sort of supplement the one before Natalia can keep a level head in some situations and stick to what she has to do in some situations. Largo at the Radiation Gate in one such example.
- When there is something to get done then she will get it done. She's feisty so that plays into her motivations and takes things on with confidence (which she has it) and has a lot of courage to back herself up (again when she has it). There are exceptions as explained in personality and down below.
- She's very helpful! And not many things stop her from doing so unless it is something she is very against. Like she will help people who are 'dirty' if they need medical assistance but she would obviously not help something is it hurts Kimlasca.
- Natalia can sympathize even with enemies sometimes such as when she sympathized with Arietta. This can honestly be taken as both a strength and a weakness but to be able to do so shows that she isn't completely black and white on her morals.
Weaknesses
Physical:
- Because Natalia is a long-ranged fighter if you catch her up close there isn't much she can do to defend herself. So if you can get past her arrows then you can easily overtake her. Though, of course, she wouldn't stand for it and try to do what she can anyways but y'knoow.
- She's also a very bad cook and doesn't seem to possess the ability to get better with her food as per the skits called 'Natalia's cooking lesson'. Veeeeery rarely if you're really luck she'll actually cook something decent (and when she does let her cherish the moment good grief Luke).
Mental/Emotional:
- Natalia has been clinging to the words of (as well as just... him in general) Asch himself. He was basically her pillar up until his death. She's just learning how to start standing on her two feet but since she's taken almost right after Asch's death there hasn't really been the time in order to do so.
- She has some insecurity issues. They're not as big as they were then she first arose but they're still there and while she does her best to keep them from intruding her thoughts there are some subjects that might bring them up again. Reminding her that she is not the true princess is one though she does try to counter it by showing that it doesn't matter if she isn't one of blood.
- She's kind of naive and tends to believe things sometimes that aren't obviously not true. Also doesn't know simple things like how to peel a carrot and that you cannot heal a pot when you set it on fire.
- There are times when Natalia was and is insecure about herself and who she is. It took her a while to get over the fact that she is not the royal princess of Kimlasca by blood and while she has come to terms with it it's not something that she likes to be reminded about.
- Natalia is someone who can get agitated if there is something that she doesn't agree with it and often causes an argument. Someones this causes her to also come off as haughty and arrogant and may even cause some tension. Easiest examples would be whenever Luke would say something that she doesn't like about her clothing or whenever Jade makes a remark that she doesn't agree with. Or when Anise says one of her little comments.

It has been a few days since Natalia has arrived in Luceti. Her first moments here were... bizarre for lack of a better term. Certainly not something she is used to! And to think that after all that time traveling with her companions there is always some sort of surprise just waiting around the corner. Though, of course, that is simply to be expected is it not? Still ... some of the surprises were certainly not anything that she expected. But a different world entirely should come with its own surprises.
Natalia found herself walking around the village of Luceti. Rather than her usual clothing she's wearing the clothing she had gotten prior to today. Clothing that, obviously, are warmer for this weather. A little fresh air will do her some good; at the very least she enjoys it a lot more than staying indoors all day.
After all, there is a lot to think about.
But despite that she doesn't try to dwell on those thoughts. Instead she takes it in herself to do a little shopping. Maybe help someone who seems to be in need of some assistance. Just because this isn't Kimlasca or even Malkuth doesn't mean that she still should help after all. And it will help take her mind off a few things.
And everyone knows that this is better than if she stayed home and did something like cooking. Though she did find the house lacking a few ingredients. Perhaps it is a good idea to not cook anything but to at least acquire a few things from the grocery store. Then, if no one is cooking when she arrives back to try her hand at cooking here. Perhaps she'll have better luck!
... No. Probably not. But it's always good to think that.
"Now, where did they say it was," Natalia mused. She had gotten a run-down of where everything was so it shouldn't be too difficult to find where the stores containing food were.
Once she did find the store she started to pick a few ingredients. Chicken, Cheese, Pasta, Tomatoes ... sounds like it'll be pasta night tonight with chicken.
That is if no one stops her first.
